Migos : Quavo, Takeoff and Offset
The beginnings
American hip-hop group settled in Atlanta (Georgia), Migos is formed by Quavo (Quavious Marshall, 24), Offset (Kiari Cephus, 23) and Takeoff (Kirshnik Ball, 21). They became famous in 2013, according to the release of their single “Versace”. The track was produced by Zaytoven and it went viral with a peak at 99 situated on the Billboard Hot 100. This hit inspired rapper Drake as well to gather the trio to create an official remix. They performed in 2013, at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Then, Migos released a mixtape entitled “Y.R.N” ‘Young Rich Niggas”.
The start of their musical career
In 2014, on February 25, the group Migos launched their new mixtape called “No Label 2”. It was downloaded more than 100,000 times during the first week. The opus is rewarded double platinum by popular mixtape site called DatPiff. Since its realease, the mixtape met positive opinions from music critics.
Migos signed in June 2014, with 300 Entertainment. It was distributed by the label, Atlantic Records. “Fight Night” was the next hit of the group. This one peaked at the position number 69 on the Hot 100. The LP Yung Rich Nation dropped on July 31, 2015.
Quality Control Music
Guest appearances like Chris Brown and Young Thug were present on the LP. The album was sold as 15,000 copies within the first week. It reached the 3rd position on the Top Rap Albums Chart.
In September, the group decided to leave their production 300 Entertainment to move to Quality Control Music. They chose this label because they thought that the new settled management could succeed in managing them alone. They felt that this label would rise their revenue stream. Just after this change and signature, the tree rappers set off a new mixtape called “Back to the Bando”. “Look at My dab” was the first song from this well received mixtape. This opus reached world-wide attention as it dance, the “dabbing”, originally created in Atlanta.
2016
2016, the beginning of the year was the moment when the rappers’s band Migos extracted a new record “Young Rich Niggas 2” composed of 14 tracks in total. The mixtape featured credits from productions and hitmakers Will-A-Fool, Wheezy, Dun Deal, Beatz, Zaytoven, Murda and more.
In February, the trio group launched their “Dab Tour” at The Regency at San Francisco. Fellow dabs enthusiasts joined them, like Rich the Kid, Jose Guapo and Skippa Da Flippa, on the road. The trek which lasted one month ended in Charlotte, NC on March 15. In July, their new EP titled “3 Way” was launched, it was laced with five tracks. The EP was used as a follow-up for “Y.R.N.2”. The only guest was Blac Youngsta, an American rapper, member of their entourage. The production was handled at that time by Cassius Jay, Zaytoven, Rick Racks and Dun Deal. In September, the hip-hop band announced their goals to launch a long-awaited sophomore album. “Culture” was the name of this creative album full of new sonorities and sounds. The main single of this album “Bad and Boujee” (released on October) was created with the participation of Lil Uzi Vert. So the hip hop group’s song became a real phenomenon, it reached the position number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The hip hop trend is to usher new talent. Newcomers created their mark if they signed with a label already known by another well established rapper. However, wild and unpredictable cards are thrown, it was the case for the trio from Atlanta. Finally, they really provoked the buzz while hitting clubs in their town, every week and they decided to buy a drink to the DJ for that he would play their records. And this incredible and grassroots proceed worked.
