JACQUEES: The Young King Of R&B
From his real name Rodriquez Broadnax, Jacquees is an American singer and songwriter born April 15, 1994 in Decatur, a city in the state of Georgia. After learning the music of Jacksons and Temptations on television, he learns to sing by himself at the age of nine. Influenced by R & B and hip-hop stars like Usher, Ginuwine, R. Kelly, Jodec, Boyz II Men and Hot Boys, he also listened to a lot of classical music by Luther Vandross and Marvin Gaye as his mother used to play them back home.
During his academic years, he participated in a number of talent contests, winning trophies one after another each year. He graduated from Mary McCleod Bethune Middle School, where he continued to participate in talent competition search of the year. He won twice at Bethune Middle and once at the Talent Show at Dekalb County Middle School.
His professional career took a while to take off, but grew quite fast. In 2007, he met a former director, Orlando Grind. He played in a variety of shows before meeting Russell « lock » Spencer, founder and CEO of Block Entertainment studio where he will record later.
Through his work on the single « Krazy » with TI, he creates a visibility and builds his Fanbase. He then performs a number of mixtapes before publishing his EP ’19’, which will give a kickoff to his career. Always aiming higher with first-place Billboard dreams, Jacquees does not let go and works even more. In 2009, he released his first EP, entitled ‘I Am Jacquees’ a rather average project that was used to make him discovered by the public. On August 11, 2011, his first mixtape ‘Round of Applause’ is online. Having built a dedicated team, this project has earned him an increased recognition and a growing Fanbase. A year later, on August 29, 2012, he published his second mixtape called « Fan Affiliated » followed by the mixtape, « Quemix » released on May 1, 2013.
He dreams of working with fully-established artists like Lil Wayne, Drake, Justin Bieber, Bow Wow, Lil ‘Chuckee, Chris Brown and many others. « All these artists started at the age I have and succeed in the industry, I admire them and I dream of being as successful as they are, » says Jacquees.
On March 25, 2014, Jacquees independently released « 19 ». An EP composed of 11 tracks with many stars of the music industry such as Chris Brown, Rich Homie Quan, Lloyd and Trinidad James. Few months later, on October 1, 2014, he signed a recording and management contract with Cash Money Records. He met his idol Birdman and worked with him on the mixtape « Lost at Sea ». Through the unfailing support of its producer Birdman, jacques dreams of becoming the greatest R & B artist of all time and creates the controversy by claiming to be « The King of R & B ».
In 2016, his single « BED », spent 7 weeks on Billboard. He was ranked 69th in the Billboard Hot 100. On June 15, 2018, he released his first album 4275 with guests such as Birdman, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Dej Loaf and Young Thug. An album that was appreciated by critics.
