Beenie Man – Booking

Beenie Man, d’abord connu sous le nom de ‘Beany Man’, est une légende du dancehall old school. Il est né le 22 août 1973 dans la capitale Jamaïcaine, l’épicentre du dancehall, Kingston. La carrière de Beenie Man commence très tôt ; il est révélé grâce au radio-crochet jamaïcain Teeny Talent contest, qu’il remporte à l’âge de 8 ans. Il est repéré à cette occasion par le producteur de reggae Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes avec qui il sort son premier single « Too Fancy » qui le fait entrer dans le circuit des célèbres sound system de Kingston. En 1983, le jeune artiste apparaît sur le disque Two Big Sound – Live! produit par Junjo, aux côtés de grands noms de la scène reggae internationale comme Dillinger. La même année, il sort son premier album The Invincible Beenie Man: 10-Year-Old Deejay Wonder avant d’être au centre d’une querelle publique avec le DJ Bounty Killer qui le fera se retirer de la scène jamaïcaine pour une décennie.

Il revient en 1994 avec l’album Guns Out qu’il partage avec Bounty Killer et qui marquera leur réconciliation. Depuis, l’artiste est prolifique il compte près de 1000 singles et une vingtaine d’albums officiels à son actif dont : Many Moods of Moses dont est issu son titre « Who Am I (Sim Simma) », The Doctor en 1999 ou Undisputed en 2006 qui se classera en première position au Billboard Reggae Albums. Aujourd’hui l’artiste est toujours actif et bénéficie d’une reconnaissance internationale. Il a d’ailleurs annoncé la sortie de son nouvel album « Simma » courant 2021 avec des invités qu’il n’est plus nécessaire de présenter comme Shaggy et Sean Paul.

Beenie Man, first known as ‘Beany Man’, is an old school dancehall legend born on August 22, 1973 in the Jamaican capital, Kingston. Beenie Man’s career kicks off at an early age ; he was revealed through the Jamaican radio talent contest Teeny Talent contest, which he won at the age of 8. He was spotted at this occasion by the reggae producer Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes, with whom he released his first single « Too Fancy » that launched him on the circuit of the famous sound system of Kingston. In 1983, the young artist appeared on the Two Big Sound – Live! record produced by Junjo, alongside with big names of the international reggae scene such as Dillinger. He released his debut album The Invincible Beenie Man: 10-Year-Old Deejay Wonder that same year, before being at the center of a public feud with DJ Bounty Killer that caused him to retire from the Jamaican scene for about ten years.

He returned in 1994 with the album Guns Out shared with Bounty Killer, which marked their reconciliation. Since then, the artist is prolific with nearly 1,000 singles and about twenty official albums to his credit, including : Many Moods of Moses from which comes his track « Who Am I (Sim Simma) », The Doctor in 1999 or Undisputed in 2006 which will reach number one on the Billboard Reggae Albums. Today the artist is still active and enjoys international recognition.
