Chukwuka Ekweani, better known as CKay, born July 16, 1995 in Kaduna is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer signed to Warner Music South Africa. He was previously signed to Chocolate City, a member of the independent label Warner Music Group ADA. He is of Igbo origin from Anambra State. His passion for music was brought by his father, who was a choir director in their local church.

In 2014, he moved to Lagos after being discovered. While he was signed with Loopy Music, he started collaborating with Chocolate City, early 2015. He is an artist who has made tracks in a wide range of genres, including Afrobeats, R&B and dancehall.

On October 23, 2016, CKay’s cover of Kelly Joe’s « Bad Musician Bad Producer » was nominated by TNMA and earned him special recognition. On September 11, 2017, he released the Who the Fuck Is CKay? – EP.

On March 2, 2018, he released Container, an Afrobeat track influenced by the South African dance style gwara gwara.

On August 30, 2019, he released his second project CKay the First via Chocolate City. The project included the hit single Love Nwantiti, which became a major record in Nigeria. On February 14, 2020, CKay released a remix titled Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) featuring Joeboy and Kuami Eugene.

In 2021, it went viral on TikTok and became an international hit, breaking through across Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, also reaching #23 in the UK and earning it its first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100. A North African remix featuring ElGrandeToto became popular in North African countries and Germany. A French remix with Franglish, a German remix with Frizzo, Joeboy and Kuami Eugene, the Spanish version with De La Ghetto, the East African remix with Rayvanny and a South African remix with Tshego and Gemini Major.

On November 13, 2020, he appeared on the song La La from Davido’s studio album A Better Time, released via Davido Music Worldwide, RCA Records and Sony Music. On February 11, 2021, he released his third ep Boyfriend via Warner Music South Africa.

CKay became the first African artist to reach 20 million Spotify listeners, with over 21 million monthly listeners on his Spotify page

On December 3, 2021, CKay released Emiliana and By Your Side with Blxckie. On April 1, 2022, the video was released and directed by Mosh. Emiliana which was a hit across Europe and Africa, also reaching #9 in France and earning it its first top 5 ranking in the Nigeria TurnTable Top 50. On May 26, 2022, Emiliana was certified platinum in France.

CKay was then invited to present his new songs on American TV. He participates, for example, in the show « The Tonight Show » of Jimmy Fallon and chooses to perform his track « Emiliana. »

On August 18, 2022, he participates in the compilation Ici c’est Paris of the label Rec. 118 on the track Ma chérie with Leto.

After the worldwide success of the title « Love Nwantiti », Ckay continues his rise with the publication of his first album « Sad Romance », released on September 23, 2022.

Chukwuka Ekweani, plus connu sous le nom de CKay, né le 16 juillet 1995 à Kaduna est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et producteur nigérian signé chez Warner Music Afrique du Sud. Il était auparavant signé chez Chocolate City, membre du label indépendant Warner Music Group ADA. Il est d’origine Igbo de l’État d’Anambra. Sa passion pour la musique a été amené par son père, qui était chef de chœur dans leur église locale.

En 2014, il déménage à Lagos, après avoir été découvert. Alors qu’il était signé avec Loopy Music, il a commencé à collaborer avec Chocolate City, début 2015. C’est un artistes qui a fait des morceaux dans un panel large de genres, y compris les Afrobeats, le R&B et le dancehall.

Le 13 novembre 2020, il est apparu sur la chanson La La de l’album studio de Davido A Better Time, sorti via Davido Music Worldwide, RCA Records et Sony Music. Le 11 février 2021, il sort son troisième ep Boyfriend via Warner Music South Africa.

CKay est devenu le premier artiste africain à atteindre 20 millions d’auditeurs Spotify, avec plus de 21 millions d’auditeurs mensuels sur sa page Spotify

Le 3 décembre 2021, CKay a sorti Emiliana et By Your Side avec Blxckie. Le 1er avril 2022, le clip est sorti et réalisé par Mosh. Emiliana qui a connu un succès à travers l’Europe et l’Afrique, atteignant également la 9ème place en France et lui valant son premier classement dans le top 5 du classement Nigeria TurnTable Top 50. Le 26 mai 2022, Emiliana a été certifiée platine en France.

CKay est alors invité à présenter ses nouveaux morceaux à la télé américaine. Il participe, par exemple, à l’émission « The Tonight Show » de Jimmy Fallon et choisit d’interpréter son titre « Emiliana »

Le 18 août 2022, il participe à la compilation Ici c’est Paris du label Rec. 118 sur le titre Ma chérie avec Leto.
