LayZee (formerly Mr. President) – The Eurodance Icon Still Lighting Up the Stage

Delroy Rennalls, known by his stage name LayZee, is a British singer, rapper, and songwriter from Birmingham, best known as the male voice of the German eurodance group Mr. President, which rose to global fame with the smash hit Coco Jamboo.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Stardom

In 1994, Rennalls joined Mr. President, replacing rapper George Jones. Alongside vocalists T-Seven and Lady Danii, he helped catapult the group to international fame. Their debut album, Up’n Away – The Album (1995), achieved notable success across Europe with hits like Up’n Away and I’ll Follow the Sun.

But the group’s breakthrough came in 1996 with the release of Coco Jamboo, from the album We See the Same Sun. The single peaked at No. 8 on the UK charts and reached No. 21 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming a defining anthem of the ‘90s.

A Solo Journey and Artistic Evolution

After Mr. President disbanded in 2008, LayZee launched a solo career while continuing to perform the group’s iconic hits. He collaborated with various international artists and explored new musical directions. In 2014, he formed a dynamic stage duo with Hungarian singer Erika Kovács, bringing Mr. President’s hits back to life in live performances around the globe.

LayZee also released solo singles such as Tonight, Summertime, Copacabana, Come On Everybody, and Calling in Sick. As a producer and DJ, he adopted the alias Diezel Washington—a name suggested by producer Mousse T and inspired by the actor Denzel Washington.

A Dynamic Stage Presence

LayZee continues to energize crowds at ‘90s-themed festivals and major events. In 2023, he took the stage at Germany’s “Sunshine Live – Die 90er Live on Stage” festival, delivering vibrant performances of Mr. President classics to thousands of fans.
