Born Seydou Koné on January 1st, 1953 in Dimbokro (Côte d’Ivoire), Alpha Blondy emerged in the early 1980s as a leading voice of African reggae. A polyglot, he sings in Dioula, French, English — and occasionally Arabic and Hebrew — to carry messages of peace and unity beyond borders. His debut album Jah Glory! (1982) introduced “Brigadier Sabari”, a protest anthem against police brutality; this was followed by Cocody Rock!!! (1984), Apartheid Is Nazism (1985) and Jerusalem (1986), recorded in Jamaica with The Wailers and now considered a cross-faith classic. These albums established a style bridging roots reggae and a West-African sensibility, positioning Alpha Blondy as an international authority in the genre.

Across the decades he continued recording and touring with his band The Solar System while keeping a strong civic profile. Appointed Peace Messenger by the United Nations Mission in Côte d’Ivoire (ONUCI) in 2005, he multiplied awareness concerts and public interventions for reconciliation at home and abroad. This posture fed a prolific discography, from Masada (1992) and Elohim (2000) to the 2010s releases Mystic Power (2013), Positive Energy (2015) and Human Race (2018).
