Born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Diamond Platnumz, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul Juma Issack, is one of the most influential figures in bongo flava, a musical movement blending Swahili pop, R&B, hip-hop, dancehall and East African sounds. A singer, songwriter, dancer and entrepreneur, he has helped bring Tanzanian popular music far beyond its domestic market. His style is built around memorable melodies, danceable rhythms, expressive vocals and ambitious music videos that bring international pop conventions together with local languages and cultural references. Starting out in Dar es Salaam, he has built a pan-African career, with a substantial audience in East and Central Africa and growing visibility across other African markets, Europe and the Caribbean.
Diamond Platnumz began recording in the 2000s and came to prominence with “Kamwambie,” the title track of his debut album, released in 2010. He followed it with Lala Salama in 2012, then developed a discography combining romantic ballads, party tracks and productions influenced by international pop. In 2014, he dominated the Tanzania Music Awards, winning seven prizes, including awards for performance, songwriting and composition. This local recognition accompanied his regional expansion. In 2018, A Boy from Tandale marked an important step in his international development: the album featured numerous collaborations and brought bongo flava into conversation with Afropop, R&B and global urban music. In 2022, he released First of All, which includes “Waah!,” recorded with Congolese rumba legend Koffi Olomidé, bringing together two generations of African music.
Collaborations are central to his reach. “Number One,” recorded with Nigerian artist Davido, brought the Tanzanian and Nigerian scenes closer together. He recorded “Kidogo” with the duo P-Square, while “African Beauty,” featuring American singer Omarion, placed him in direct dialogue with international R&B. He has also collaborated with Fally Ipupa on “Inama,” Burna Boy and Afro B on “Kainama,” Flavour on “Nana,” Innoss’B on the remix of “Yope,” and Rayvanny on several tracks, including “Tetema.” Through Harmonize, Zuchu, Mbosso and Jux, he has also maintained close ties with the new generation of Tanzanian pop. These collaborations allow him to move between bongo flava, Afropop, Congolese rumba and dancehall without losing his distinctive vocal identity.
Hits such as “Jeje,” “The One,” “Baba Lao,” “Gere,” “Sound,” “Waah!,” “Tetema” and “Enjoy” illustrate the breadth of his repertoire. “Komasava (Comment Ça Va),” released in 2024 with Khalil Harrison and Chley, became one of his most internationally visible tracks. Its circulation across social media, streaming platforms and dance videos expanded its audience; a remix with Jason Derulo extended that momentum and brought the song closer to international pop. Diamond Platnumz’s catalogue is also supported by music videos that have accumulated hundreds of millions of views, while his YouTube channel ranks among Africa’s most-followed. This digital visibility is a major asset in an industry where videos and social media play a central role in music discovery.
Beyond his work as a performer, Diamond Platnumz has developed a professional ecosystem around WCB Wasafi, a label and organisation that has supported several Tanzanian artists, including Rayvanny, Mbosso, Lava Lava and Zuchu at different stages of their careers. He has also invested in media through Wasafi TV and Wasafi FM, establishing himself as an influential entrepreneur in the regional music industry. His activities reflect an important evolution in the African market: established artists build brands, develop talent, control part of their distribution and diversify their income streams. His catalogue is distributed internationally and benefits from collaborations with artists and organisations beyond the Swahili-speaking market, making his music more accessible to festival programmers and diaspora audiences.
His recognition includes the Tanzania Music Awards, African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA and MTV Europe Music Awards, as well as nominations for the BET Awards in the Best International Act: Africa category. In 2015, he received distinctions at the MTV Europe Music Awards, further raising his profile outside the continent. He is regularly cited among East Africa’s most influential artists and is recognised for his stage performances, choreography and ability to bring together multilingual audiences. His appearances have taken him to pan-African stages and international events, where he presents a repertoire balancing romantic songs, dance tracks and widely appealing collaborations.
In 2026, he has maintained a busy release schedule with several singles, including “Kakua,” “ASANTE,” “Happy,” “Joy” with Jux, “Natulizana,” “Pom Pom” and “SHU!” with Chlé. On 24 September, he released “Nikumbuke,” a collaboration with Tanzanian gospel singer Joel Lwaga, issued by OSPO Music Group and EMPIRE. The release broadens his range further, connecting his melodic sensibility with gospel performance. His recent activity confirms his desire to diversify his catalogue while remaining firmly rooted in the Tanzanian scene.
With “Number One,” “Kidogo,” “African Beauty,” “Inama,” “Waah!,” “Tetema,” “Komasava” and “Nikumbuke,” Diamond Platnumz has a repertoire spanning several generations of contemporary African pop. His artistic identity, entrepreneurial experience, awards and international collaborations make him a leading name in bongo flava and a strong choice for Afro festivals, urban events and international programmes dedicated to today’s African music.
His influence also stems from his ability to bring the Swahili language into international pop formats. While some artists prioritise recording in English, he continues to give Swahili a prominent place, using hooks and collaborations that make his music accessible to listeners who do not speak the language. Combined with a consistent social-media presence, this strategy helps sustain interest in both new releases and catalogue tracks, while maintaining a direct relationship with his fans.
