Born Abdelkader Haibaoui on March 11, 1979 in Bab El Oued (Algiers), Kader Japonais emerged in the mid-2000s as one of the leading voices of modern raï. Nicknamed “Japonais” early in his career for his features — a name he adopted as a stage identity — he first proved himself on stages in Algiers, Oran and Constantine before exporting his sound to major festivals across the Maghreb and beyond. His first wave of notoriety crystallized with “Jibou La Brigade” and the albums La Brigade (2006), Mania (2008) and Haba Haba (2009), mixing raï, chaâbi and Arab pop in a dance-driven, chorus-heavy format.

Throughout the 2010s he alternated heartfelt ballads and uptempo club anthems that circulated widely across nightlife networks and platforms, while performing at major festivals: Djemila, Timgad, Annaba, Algiers, Mawazine in Rabat, Oujda and Casablanca in Morocco, Hammamet and Kasserine in Tunisia, as well as the World Festival of Black Arts in Senegal. This live footprint strengthened a career already reinforced by the North-African diaspora in Europe.

His discography expanded with Bafana Bafana (2010), Mamamia (2011), Djarhi Ma Bra (2013), Bassik Maaya (2014), Mami Mami (2015), Hkaya (2016) and Holm (2018), confirming a melodic, stage-ready writing style. On the collaboration front he worked with Cheb Nasro, Rim’K (113), Lartiste, DJ Kayz, DJ Hamida, L’Algérino, and Moroccan star Zina Daoudia on a raï-chaâbi duet that spread widely online. He also performed the main title theme of the Algerian TV series El Khawa, further embedding his voice in popular culture.

His digital presence supports his reach: his official channel and social platforms tally high traffic, and several clips pass the million-view threshold, reinforcing a transnational audience from the Maghreb to Europe. In recent catalog activity, the compilation Best of Kader Japonais was released August 30, 2024 (14 tracks), showcasing the breadth and stage power of his repertoire.

On the live side, 2024–2025 marks his return to key French venues and diaspora festivals, with a setlist engineered for large indoor halls and open-air programs: medleys of signature hits, percussive breaks and constant audience interaction. Looking ahead, a major milestone is already announced — a Zénith Paris – La Villette headline show scheduled for September 19, 2026 — confirming his strengthened position on the European market.

Balancing legacy and relevance, Kader Japonais stands as a raï headliner capable of uniting multi-generational crowds. His instantly recognizable vocal imprint, a catalog rich in sing-along choruses and a proven command of the live stage make him a reliable headliner choice for festivals, arenas and large cultural events.
