Born Jeffrey Bruce Atkins on February 29, 1976, in Queens, New York, Ja Rule established himself as one of the defining crossover artists of the early 2000s by blending hardcore hip hop with melodic hooks and R&B collaborations. Emerging from New York’s rap scene in the mid-1990s, he first gained national attention alongside Jay-Z, DMX and Mic Geronimo before signing with Def Jam Recordings under Irv Gotti, later becoming one of the flagship artists of Murder Inc. Records.

His commercial breakthrough arrived with Venni Vetti Vecci (1999), powered by the platinum-certified single « Holla Holla. » He reached global superstardom with Rule 3:36 (2000), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and featured international hits including « Between Me and You, » « Put It on Me, » and « I Cry. » The momentum continued through Pain Is Love, The Last Temptation and Blood in My Eye, helping push his worldwide sales beyond 30 million records.

Pain Is Love became the defining project of his career, earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album while producing major crossover classics including « Always On Time » featuring Ashanti, « Livin’ It Up » featuring Case and « I’m Real (Murder Remix) » with Jennifer Lopez. « Always On Time » reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains one of the most successful rap and R&B collaborations ever released.

Throughout his career, Ja Rule collaborated with an exceptional list of artists including Ashanti, Jennifer Lopez, Fat Joe, DMX, Jay-Z, Method Man, Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, R. Kelly, Case, Christina Milian, Charlie Baltimore, Vita, Bobby Brown, Nelly, Rick Ross, T.I. and Mary J. Blige. His partnership with Ashanti alone produced timeless hits such as « Always On Time, » « Mesmerize, » and « Wonderful, » which continue generating hundreds of millions of streams worldwide.

His achievements include multiple Grammy Award, BET Award, American Music Award, MTV Video Music Award and Billboard Music Award nominations, alongside numerous Platinum and Multi-Platinum RIAA certifications.
